The Founder Of Mat Rempit

Sulaiman Mohamed was the MP for Titiwangsa back in the early 1980s. When he was the MP, he recruited many dropped out Malays. These youths were given free food and lodging and Sulaiman provided them with bikes confiscated by the police to do his errands. At first the errands were nothing serious until he became ambitious and greedy. He would assign his boys to collect money from the traders in the markets and pasar malam. He would then give them a percentage to share among themselves and kept the rest to himself.

Things turn ugly when the folks in Kg Pandan/Desa Pandan had to be relocated. Sulaiman was brazen and instructed his boys to threaten and even burn the houses and cars of the stubborn ones who refused to move. When police reports were made, the police did not dare to intervene when told that they were Sulaiman’s boys.

When Astaman Abdul Aziz took over from Sulaiman as MP, he did not want to have anything to do with the boys. Astaman found the boys to be unruly and crude. Astaman knew he could not control them and was afraid too. That was the downfall of Astaman.

The boys now have no-one to provide them with free food, lodging and allowances but they have the bikes. So that was the beginning of Mat Rempit.
