KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 — Sarawak Report has published a letter from Bank Negara Malaysia to Public Accounts Committee chairman Datuk Hasan Arifin that he cited as the basis for unilateral edits to his panel's report on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
This comes after the whistleblower website yesterday claimed to have gotten access to the classified report prepared by the Auditor-General on the state investment firm, and reproduced excerpts.
Hasan previously claimed that he removed parts of the PAC's report on 1MDB without the knowledge of other members, after he received a letter from the central bank.
He asserted that the letter requested the omission of details contained in two paragraphs as the information was confidential.
PAC members protested his move and insisted that they were not made aware of any such letter or request from BNM.
Sarawak Report was blocked by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for publishing “unverified” news last year, and access to the website remains restricted from within Malaysia.
