Why is it okay for a Muslim to insult other races and religion?
Can someone please answer this?
Court’s ‘no bail’ decision a warning
There can be no compromise on any form of insult on religion or other sensitive matters, even if said and done for fun, said Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamid.
BANGI: The decision by the court in not granting bail to couple Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee for mocking Islam should be a lesson for everyone.
Home Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said it should be a lesson for young people of all races to not make a mockery of other people’s religious beliefs.
“Any form of insult, although initially for fun, but on sensitive matters, including on religion, they should not be made fun of and cannot be compromised,” he told reporters after the breaking of fast with the Malaysian Civil Defence Department here yesterday.
He said the peace and harmony in the country should be preserved by all quarters and they should not attempt to touch on matters which had been enshrined in the Federal Constitution, like on Islam being the official religion of the country.
Tan, 25, and Lee 24, pleaded not guilty in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court yesterday to three charges related to their action in posting their Ramadan Bak Kut Teh greeting on their Facebook page and pornographic pictures in their blogs.
Deputy public prosecutor Noorin Badaruddin asked the court to not grant them bail because of their tendency to upload pictures that could arouse public outrage.
