Attend our trainings for polling and counting agents before hurling unwarranted accusations, the electoral reform pressure group tells the former DAP leader
PETALING JAYA: Electoral reforms pressure group Bersih 2.0 rubbished Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim’s claims that their trainings for polling and counting agents were aimed at creating chaos on polling day, saying that the allegations are wholly untrue.
“We denounce in the strongest terms his recent attempt to implicate Bersih 2.0 in an alleged strategy to create chaos on polling day.
“Tunku Aziz ought to attend these training sessions so that he can understand the process and appreciate how ridiculous his allegations are,” said Bersih 2.0 in a statement yesterday.
The training, known as PACABA, was an initiative by Bersih and fellow NGO, Tindak Malaysia,to recruit volunteers and train them to become polling and counting agents.
Tunku Aziz claimed he received several documents indicating that it was an attempt to disrupt the 13th general election by creating chaos and besmirching the Election Commission
He also claimed the people trained are encouraged to challenge the election clerk on duty on polling day, and demand for random ballot paper to guarantee the secrecy of their votes.
Responding to these, Bersih asked Tunku Aziz, a former DAP man, to disclose the purported “evidence” that he claims to have.
“Bersih has made it clear that it does not agree with the randomisation of votes and Tindak Malaysia’s inclusion of this item in their training has ceased,” said the steering committee.
Bersih 2.0 also said the source of the possible “chaos” could lies elsewhere, “given the obvious instances of political violence and smear campaigns that go unchecked”.
They urged Tunku Aziz, as former Transparency-International president to instead train his guns on the transparency of EC and the political violence and smear campaign.
