There was a time from my past when it was easy to know right from wrong. Good from bad. When to know that a man is deserving of your respect or your contempt. I know men of integrity and substance. All this I learned from watching my father. He is a good man. An upright, noble human being for whom, respect is earned and given only to those whom he knows are deserving of it. From this man, whom I have had the privilege of calling my father, I learned about life. About people. And about how, in life, you are ultimately the sum of all that you have been in the past and will be in the future. And it is what you do when nobody is watching you, that will ultimately determine who you really are.
That is why, today, over 6000 km away in Melbourne, for the past decade and counting, I have been able, day in and day out, with little pause for reflections and rest….I have been able to so often write what is in my heart about a country and a people so far away. About how I felt for that country Malaysia and its people, Malaysians. I am able to do so because my parents are good, decent people who have taught me the fundamentals of life. What they have taught me is not to pray five times a day. They have not taught me that the Malays are the Tuans of the country that we know as Malaysia. They have not taught me that kebendaan, pangkat dan kemewahan are what we should strive for. All that they have taught me from the time that I could remember is simply this. Do as we do. Marriage is for life. Be good. Do good and be nice to one another. And always, always…respect those who deserve your respect, and live life the best way you can.
Today at 74, all those things came flooding back to me as I sit here at my desk, in front of my Mac, thinking about life. Thinking about my country Malaysia and thinking about its people. I am thinking about the lessons I learned when I was growing up. I am thinking that those who are now in charge of our country must also have had parents as I did. And I sure, in one way or another, their parents must have instilled in them some sense of what is right and what is wrong, what is good and what is bad. And surely their parents would not want them to lie, to steal, to be corrupt, arrogant, cause so much pain, suffering upon the very people that they are leaders of?
These thoughts again crossed my mind this morning. My heart is heavy because I cannot find a reason why so many Malays with political power and money, are so different from the Malays with political power and money from the time that I remembered from my past. Why have things changed so much?

What is happening? Are these innocents people who have been convicted by the Judiciary? And the question now on my mind is how many more ‘innocent’ politicians are going to have their charges withdrawn or their conviction overturned? Has the deluge started? And once started, how soon will it take before the Umno Court Cluster is uncluttered? Dalam masa terdekat or earlier?
Is there no one in Umno who will have the good sense to say….yes, we are in control now! Yes, the authorities and the judiciary will do our bidding. And yes, whether innocent or guilty, we want every one of the Umno Court Cluster to be freed, if already convicted we want them to be pardon or have their charges withdrawn and their conviction overturned.
Is that not what is now happening? Does it not occur to those in Umno to do these things with some finesse? Be a bit more discreet and try to make it not too obvious that Umno are now giving instruction to the authorities, to the Judiciary to do these things. After all, Umno still has PRU15 in front of them and still needs to win votes. What need is there to antagonize the electorates by allowing corrupt Umno members to not be prosecuted for their crimes and allowing them back into Umno to do more pillaging and plundering of our national coffers? But hubris and arrogance is Umno’s trademark. And those in the Umno Cluster are impatient to begin again their pillaging and plundering of our national coffers. Damm the consequences and damm PRU15 which is still far away.
So let us watch Umno shoot themselves not in the foot as they did in PRU14 with 1MDB, but in their heads in their eagerness to push aside public interest for private gain and lose themselves in the orgy of political power that they think great wealth, brings. Instead of managing the Covid Pandemic. Instead of taking care of Malaysians who are dying and doing it tough because of the pandemic, these Umno guys are thinking about their own pockets. Private gain over the public interest.
There is nothing we can do for now. Nothing. They can pardon Najib esok. There is nothing you can do. They can have the charges against Rosmah and Zahid Hamidi and the others in the Umno cluster withdrawn esok. There is nothing you can do. Terima aja, but things are not going to stay this way forever!
We know that Ismail Sabri is nothing! Muhyiddin, Azmin and Hamzah will decide on what the present government will do. Mail Bera takes orders and is not even privy to the discussions of these pariahs. Mail Bera takes their orders and instructions and implements them. That was the agreement.
How will this government handle the opposition and the activists that can make their life hell? The first task of the incoming IGP is to use/misuse Sosma against the activists and the opposition. That was the agreement with the incoming IGP. A few days back, Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin has already warned that individuals issuing statements that could incite others to the point of causing public fear, could face action under the Security Offenses (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) 2012. And so the police are primed to do just that.
What else is Umno going to do? Two words. Race and Religion. Everything they now do, so they insists, will be towards “protecting” Islam from the non-Muslim, from the infidels. Everything they now do will be for the good of the Malays, for ketuanan Melayu.
What of the Royals? Huh! Already Mr. Sultan Down South is dreaming of his time as YDPA. He will want himself to be addressed as Your Majesty not YDPA. As His Majesty, what can he not achieve business-wise? He will be rich...majestically rich! He thinks that one term as His Majesty will make him richer than his son, Ismail, aka the Brigadier aka TMJ. What a toxic union! Politics and Royalty. Will there be enough in the national coffers to sate the greed of these two beasts? The mind boggles at what will come. Mr. Sultan Down South wants no GE15 until he is King. Does that mean a wait of three years before we have PRU15? Huh! I think it is not bloody likely. If he thinks that is likely, then Mr Sultan Down South must be the Istana Idiot that is now missing from Istana Bukit Serene.
Against these kinds of maniacal greed and lust for power, only DSAI and Tun Mahathir can stand in defiance, and win. So remember guys what history has taught us. We have need of these kinds of leaders. We have need of the young to rise up and take their place in the schema of things to come. And we certainly have need of all Malaysians to regroup, reset and reboot as we did in PRU14 and together, take back what is ours - Malaysia.
I am not here to argue about good or bad or Tun or DSAI. All I am saying is that we need them. We need the young, we need the activists, and we need all Malaysians to understand that 'in kali' we have to win. 'Ini kali' losing PRU15 to BN is not an option. Ini kali PRU15 is that one more step we need to take and win, if we are even to think of having a country to call our own. God help us all for our government surely will not.
