My Day at Bukit Bintang

My feet ache from standing, walking and running but it was worth it. Today I witness the coming of Malaysians from all walks of life wanting the same thing. Fair and Clean Election.

By 10am I was already at Bukit Bintang to see the so-called 2,000 Patriot march to Stadium Merdeka. But all was quiet and calm. No Red Shirt. The public and Reporters from various agencies were ready to report the march, but soon it dawn on everyone that it could take place simultaneously with Bersih or the Patriot had turn chicken.

Suddenly at 1.30 pm 2,000 Bersih supporters (young, middle age, old, female, male from different races and religions) from Bukit Bintang started the march. Many did not use their yellow tee-shirts because they did not want to be arrested and miss out on the march. The policemen were stunned and shocked. News spread fast and fury. By the time Bersih supporters reach Federal Hotel another 1,000 had run to join in. When we reached Puduraya and joined the other groups coming from Sentral, Central Market and Masjid Jamek, it became an incredible crowd of 20,000. We were told another of 3,000 supporters from Chinese Assembly Hall was blocked from coming in. It did not matter because everyone was too excited to be ONE.

I then got news that the Patriot march was about to begin, so I rushed back to Bukit Bintang to check. The Patriot group (only young men) were handling out their Red Tee-Shirts to the public but there were no takers. Then they began to form 17 lines consisting of 7 to 8 men. When they reach Federal Hotel, the Silat Master was brought to the front line in a wheel chair to boost their ego. By the grace of Allah it rained. Everyone dispersed including the Silat Master. By the time the rain had stop, the Patriot had difficulty in getting their supporters back. Around 40 gathered again. Like fools without brain they became aggressive and charged at the 20 odd FRU and police in front of them. It took the FRU and police less than 1 min to catch them but they were freed immediately in exchange for Khairy and Lokman to be taken in.

Meanwhile the Bersih crowd had entered into Jalan Alor. Upon seeing the crowd, the Patriot group quickly took off their shirts and walked away.

The Bersih supporters then proceeded to Dang Wangi and KLCC. By then the crowd has lessen.

So when the Police, FRU truck, 50 men on their Naza bikes came and later join by six FRU men on horses with their canes, the people decided it was time to end the march.

Everyone was tired and thirsty but our faces were glowing from joy and happiness that we succeeded in having our voices heard and presence known.

Will the Ruling Government now listen to us or should we march again? We will see.

To all the supporters of Bersih who risk injuries and assault THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

To Puan Rosni Malan whose husband Tuan Baharuddin Ahmad 59 died from the tear gas fired by FRU yesterday. Our condolence to the family. May he rest in peace.
