PETALING JAYA (May 8): DAP today expressed support for Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to be retained as Selangor Menteri Besar for a second term.

Its secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said Abdul Khalid should continue as head of the state after leading Pakatan Rakyat to a resounding victory at the recent general election (GE13).

During the GE13 on Sunday, the Pakatan coalition secured a two-third majority by winning 44 out of 56 state seats in Selangor, increased from the previous 36 seats.

“Even though DAP won 15 seats together with PAS’ 15 and PKR’s 14, Abdul Khalid should be recognised for his integrity and stewardship of Selangor.

“This had enabled Pakatan to beat back a determined effort by BN, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak himself, to win back Selangor,” Lim said in a statement.

The newly-elected Bagan MP said DAP Selangor is also in full support of Abdul Khalid as the state MB.

On Monday, Abdul Khalid said the Pakatan leadership has yet to determine who to nominate for the post and expected to decide on the matter within this week.

Former Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Hasan Mohamed Ali has said PAS should be given a chance to lead Selangor since it had increased its seat tally during this election compared to in 2008.
