A Chandrakumanan lauds the authorities for taking action against the DAP MP whom he claimed has insulted government leaders.
A ChandrakumananPETALING JAYA: A Barisan Nasional (BN) leader today praised the authorities for taking action against DAP MP Teresa Kok over her satire video.
People’s Progressive Party (PPP) information chief A Chandrakumanan said that many opposition leaders were taking the government’s soft approach for granted, resulting in government leaders being mocked and ridiculed regularly.
“I laud the government for throwing the book at Kok. This should set as a warning and a lesson for all those who are making fun of the government,” he said.
Yesterday, Kok was charged under Sedition Act 1948 for allegedly insulting Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansor through a video titled ‘Onederful Malaysia”.
The video, which was taken in January, also touched on several other issues such as the price hike and the Lahad Datu incursion last year.
Chandrakumanan said that as a responsible MP, Kok should not have produced such a video, which he claimed could be detrimental to public order in the country.
“Is it good to make fun of government policies and later claim it was a mere satire? Does she think everyone is stupid?” he asked.
Chandrakumanan urged DAP leaders to stop being arrogant just because they control Penang and a sizeable number of seats in Parliament.
“Do not take the rakyat for granted. DAP should be humble and be realistic enough to understand that what Kok did was unacceptable,” he said.
