Shalwati Nurshal, the Malaysian mother in Sweden accused of hitting her children, has denied the charges against her when she testified  that her children would lie just to get attention, The Star reported.
Shalwati and her husband  Azizul Raheem Awalluddin, a Tourism Malaysia director in Sweden, are on trial at the Solna district court for allegedly abusing their children since 2010.
The mother-of-four testified that her second son, Ammar, was an attention seeker and told his friends he was beaten at home just to get their attention.
She added that Ariff, her youngest child, idolised Ammar and was highly influenced by him.
She also told the court that Ariff did not mention any beating when he was interviewed for the first time by the police, but changed his story in subsequent interviews weeks later.
Shalwati said the instances of abuse related by her children during police interviews were caused by their confusion, tendency to exaggerate and, in some instances, they had simply lied.
"Show me Ammar's video and I can pinpoint the exact points he lied," she said, according to newspaper.
She also testified that her eldest daughter, Aishah, would lie to cover up embarrassment.  She said her third child, Adam, suffered from comprehension problems.
"In the interviews, he looks so unsure. He couldn't remember dates. It’s sad," she was quoted as saying.
Shalwati and Azizul are facing charges of gross violation of a child’s integrity by allegedly hitting and abusing their four children.
They were detained on December 18, 2013, after Ammar told staff at his school that he had been hit, leading them to report the matter to the authorities.
Sweden has outlawed corporal punishment. The couple face up to six years in prison if found guilty of the charges.
The trial resumes on Monday. – March 7, 2014.

First Shalwati claimed that it is A Malaysian culture to whack her children.
Then she claimed it is the Muslim way of bringing up children.
Now she claimed her children are attention seekers.
ME THINK THE SWEDISH COURT SHOULD SEND HER TO A MENTAL HOME FOR LIFE.
TO ME SHALWATI IS A DECEITFUL CREATURE NOT FIT TO BE A MOTHER. HOW CAN SHE LABEL HER CHILDREN FOR LIFE AS ATTENTION SEEKERS? I BELIEVE THE CHILDREN WILL BE MENTALLY TORTURE BY THE PEOPLE AROUND THEM IN MALAYSIA.  JUST WAIT AND SEE WHEN THEY GROW UP TO BE DRUG ADDICTS AND ONE OF THEM WILL COMMIT SUICIDE.
